The Falcon concentrator for laboratory tests is unit SB40, which was designed for testing small ore samples or concentrate grade upgrading. The unit has been designed and fabricated with special care and the material selected assures no contamination of samples during the testing program. This unit is able to treat 0-300 kg/hr solids at maximum percent solids of 75%. The material to be tested must be 100% passing 1.7mm (10 mesh) and water fluidization rate is 4-20 L/min and the final point must be selected on each particular material.
The material in slurry form is fed and particles are subjected to gravitational forces of up 200 G’s and are classified in the bowl according to their specific gravity. In this way the heaviest particles pass over the bed formed on the riffles at the top of the bowl. The equipment includes a system of fluidization water from behind the riffles and make possible that valuable and heavy particles can pass from the outside of the bed to the inner parts of the riffles so that the lighter particles can be removed. The high gravity force make possible to recover very fine gold particles ( 10 µm) and the concentrate bed allow coarser particles in the feed stream to be recovered. In this way, when the bed has reached a maximum gold content, the feed is stopped and the concentrate is collected and cleaned in a gold pan.
